Season’s Greetings!

It’s that time of the year again. Cold weather is creeping in and people are finding the warmest, most comfortable places to take shelter in. Whether it’s at home with family or somewhere among friends; there’s still warmth to be found and treasured.

This is also a time when people look back on the year that’s passed – the memories they made, the things they learned, the people they got to know – and they look forward to what the next year will hold for them.

With all that in mind I made a short, musical film for you all. A music video of sorts, for which I traveled through both The Hague’s and Amsterdam’s harsh weathers to get the footage I needed to go with my composition.

Here’s the video (I recommend to watch it in full screen and HD):

If you’d like to download an mp3 version of the music, you can do so by going to the following SoundCloud page:

I hope some of you will recognize what inspired the style of the video. If not, feel free to ask me about it.
Either way, I hope you enjoy listening and watching!

Totw: Fallout 3 – I Don’t Want To Set the World On Fire

“War. War never changes…”

It’s a line that’s familiar to every single Fallout fan out there. It was used in the first two games, and when the teaser to the third game was released many years later in 2007, it was used again. Nothing more had to be said. But it was what lead up to that line what really set the mood: good ol’ 1940′s music.

This is going to be a long one. So be prepared!

Another Dreamfall

Yesterday I found out that the continuation to my favorite adventure game series of all time has gone into pre-production. Dreamfall Chapters is the sequel to Dreamfall: The Longest Journey, which in its turn was a sequel to The Longest Journey. Therefor this Track of the Week was picked from Dreamfall’s wonderful official soundtrack and is called Marcuria. Before you listen though, consider reading some of the history below.

TotW: Pomplamoose – Pas Encore

pomplamoose

Pomplamoose

The year is 2008. The place: YouTube. Nataly Dawn and Jack Conte, a young musical couple, put their first musical collaboration video up on YouTube. Jack described it as a combination of his music and Nataly’s. “And that’s all”, Nataly responded. But that wasn’t all. It was just the first of many videos, filled with groovy tunes, gorgeous vocals, engaging rhythms and much more. Under the name Pomplamoose, they started a new channel for all of their songs.

This week’s Track of the Week is that very song that started it all: “Pas Encore”.

The Absence of Music (Musical Importance: Part 1)

I’m a sound designer and a composer. Part of my job is creating music to be used in media. This takes time, and I get payed for using that time. So this must mean that, ideally, I would create as much music as possible. Right? Just fill those scenes and levels right up to the brim with all the music I can create so I get payed lots of money for the huge amount of hours I’ve spent doing it. The truth of the matter is that, when it’s used at the right time, the absence of music can be a good thing. Continue Reading →
